Arthur P. Kreiger, Partner
A co-founder of the firm, Art Kreiger has more than 25 years of experience as an advocate, counselor, litigator and mediator. Art is a tenacious litigator, creative problem solver and insightful counselor who delivers personal attention and demonstrated results. His experience includes:
- Representing public and private clients in federal and state superfund litigation, mediation and negotiations;
- Recovering millions of dollars of response costs and damages from parties responsible for oil and hazardous material contamination, and successfully defending many clients against such claims;
- Advising clients and drafting documents on environmental issues in real estate transactions, for industrial and commercial facilities; and
- Defending industrial and commercial clients in DEP enforcement proceedings.
- Obtaining tens of millions of dollars in insurance defense and indemnity funds for public and private sector clients under general liability, environmental and nuclear policies.
- Representing local boards of health, operators and residents in solid waste facility proceedings; and
- Litigating and negotiating high stakes zoning disputes involving all types of projects, including big box retail, commercial projects, religious and educational institutions, agricultural uses, federal and state detention facilities, industrial projects, subdivisions and affordable housing.
- Testifying in state and federal court as an expert witness in contamination and environmental insurance cases;
- Serving as a court-appointed Master in a municipal sewerage dispute, a Hearing Officer in local landfill site assignment hearings, and a Hearing Officer in an affordable housing appeal at the Housing Appeals Committee; and
- Resolving dozens of environmental and land use disputes as a certified mediator for nearly 20 years.
- Serving as Co-Chairman of the Boston Bar Association's Environmental Law Section and a member of the Section's Steering Committee for 15 years;
- Serving as Co-Chair of the Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts’ Environmental Committee;
- Teaching advanced environmental law at Franklin Pierce Law Center; and
- Publishing many continuing legal education articles and presenting on many panels on environmental, insurance and land use law; and
- Serving as a member of the Belmont Zoning Board of Appeals.
