Nina L. Pickering Cook, Associate

Nina represents both public and private sector clients in complex commercial, environmental, land use, and real estate litigation. She also has extensive experience advising municipalities and other public sector clients on compliance issues.

Her litigation experience includes:

  • Defending a public sector client in a large multi-count federal action, including RICO and antitrust claims, resulting in dismissal;
  • Successfully defending a large national airport in federal court litigation over expansion plans;
  • Representing a developer in negligence and GL c. 93A action against surveyor;
  • Defending municipality in dispute over building of a recreation complex;
  • Defending a global biotech client against contract claims over the use of licensed material in Federal Court;
  • Representing commercial property owners in breach of contract actions against buyers and potential buyers;
  • Defending municipality against challenge from daycare under the so-called Dover Amendment;
  • Representing clients in all types of real estate disputes involving zoning, land rights, and construction issues;
  • Represent clients in environmental compliance actions with DEP, including GL c. 21E; and
  • Obtaining insurance coverage for multiple environmental remediation costs.

Her public sector experience includes:

  • Representing and advising municipalities in zoning enforcement matters, including defense of zoning decisions and comprehensive permits under Chapter 40B;
  • Advising and litigating tax title work and defense at the Appellate Tax Board;
  • Advising on and defense of procurement actions;
  • Advising on environmental compliance matters, including beach management; and
  • Training local and state agencies on Open Meeting Law and Public Records Law requirements.

Her pro bono work includes:

  • Prosecuting Clean Air Act violations on behalf of pro bono clients in South Boston; and
  • Representing environment justice community group opposing operation of hazardous waste transfer facility next to school and residential neighborhood
