Betsy Mason, Counsel

Betsy Mason has over 19 years of experience as an environmental, energy and land use attorney in both the private and public sectors. Her experience includes:

  • Assisting clients buying, remediating and selling “brownfield” properties, from gas stations to complex contaminated sites such as military bases and nuclear power plants;
  • Representing clients in federal and state Superfund litigation, mediation and negotiations;
  • Representing insurers and insureds in coverage disputes with respect to environmental and other long-tail exposures, and negotiating environmental liability policies for clients redeveloping contaminated properties;
  • Representing AT&T Wireless and other national wireless carriers in zoning, permitting, administrative and judicial proceedings to site, construct and operate telecommunications facilities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire;
  • Representing traditional and alternative energy companies in the permitting, construction and operation of energy facilities, and in litigation concerning federal and state environmental laws (including Clean Water Act and climate change requirements);
  • Serving as a Senior Assistant Regional Counsel in EPA's New England office;
  • Authoring numerous articles and publications and speaking at numerous conferences on environmental and energy issues; and
  • Serving as Law Clerk to Chief Justice Joseph P. Warner and the Honorable Benjamin Kaplan in the 1992-1993 term of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.

Prior to rejoining Anderson & Kreiger LLP in 2009, Betsy was a senior associate at Goodwin Procter LLP (2003-2009). Before that, she was a Senior Assistant Regional Counsel at EPA Region 1 in Boston (1997-2003). Betsy started as an associate at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, PC (1993-1996) and Anderson & Kreiger LLP (1996-1997).
