Renewable energy siting and permitting challenges. Regulatory changes. Cap and trade programs. Environmental concerns. The legal ramifications of these and other emerging energy issues can be complex and far-reaching. With a robust and growing energy practice, Anderson & Kreiger has the experience, resources, and innovative thinking necessary to help clients succeed in this rapidly-changing legal arena. Our expertise includes:
Facility siting and permitting. We coordinated the successful effort to obtain dozens of local, state, and federal permits for a major liquid natural gas (LNG) port off the coast of Massachusetts, one of the only six LNG ports in the U.S.
Renewable energy certificates. We are seeking Renewable Energy Certificates from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the largest biodiesel-fired generating facility in New England.
Permitting and litigation. Through our representation, a major electric utility kept its gas-fired generating facility in Boston operating. We also successfully defended challenges to permits for a critical undersea electric cable.
Greenhouse gas trading. A member of our energy team managed the nation's first multi-stakeholder forums on state and regional greenhouse gas trading and crediting of pre-regulation emission reductions.
Permitting. We represent a major utility on a range of matters, including land use and permitting issues associated with transmission lines, manufactured gas sites and an LNG storage facility.
Wind energy. Our energy practice team successfully litigated to secure ownership of a premier wind power project site in Massachusetts and is assisting the developers on permitting and development.
Land use and permitting. With our help, a New Hampshire utility has managed a wide range of environmental permitting and land use issues concerning an LNG facility and former electric generating facility.
Solar/Renewable Energy Certificates. Representation by our team members -- including negotiating the sale of Renewable Energy Certificates -- enabled a large municipality to develop the first large-scale solar municipal energy project in Massachusetts.
Power Purchase Agreements. We have prevailed in litigation involving the enforcement of Power Purchase Agreements in federal and state court and in arbitration.
Municipal energy issues. We have guided municipalities through a wide array of energy matters, including a proposed gas turbine power plant and associated transmission lines and contract negotiations with a regional trash-to-energy facility.
Energy efficiency programs. We have developed and managed award-winning programs, such as innovative, utility-funded energy efficiency initiatives and one of the nation's first green building programs.
